Open source · AGPL-3.0 · v0.1

Your own place to talk

Voice rooms, screen sharing with sound, chat and groups, on a server you run yourself. An open-source alternative to Discord and TeamSpeak for friends, teams and communities.

Windows, macOS and Linux. Free, no account on our side, no telemetry.

Watching a screen share in a voice room

What you get

Voice rooms that stay open

Drop in and out of persistent rooms like in TeamSpeak, or call someone directly. Voice activity or push-to-talk, global hotkeys for mute and deafen.

Screen sharing with sound

Share a window or a screen at up to 1080p60 or source resolution. On Windows 11 the stream carries only the app's audio, without echoing the room's voices.

Watch together

Open a stream full screen, set stream and voice volume separately, and let the stream get quieter while people talk.

Noise suppression on your device

Three strengths of neural noise suppression (RNNoise, GTCRN, DeepFilterNet3), plus levelling and a limiter. Nothing leaves your computer for processing.

Chat that keeps up

Groups with text channels, direct messages, replies, reactions, pins, search, Markdown, files and voice messages.

Your server, your data

A small server with SQLite or PostgreSQL and LiveKit next to it. Runs on a small VPS or a home server, by invite only if you like.

Download the app

Installers come from GitHub Releases. The app updates itself on Windows and Linux.

Builds are not code-signed yet. Windows SmartScreen may ask you to confirm; on macOS, right-click the app and choose Open the first time.

Run your own server

A Linux machine with Docker is enough. Use two domain names with HTTPS behind your reverse proxy, or just an IP address on a LAN or for a quick start.

With Docker

git clone https://github.com/D4eNst/tolktak.git
cd tolktak/deploy
./init.sh talk.example.com lk.example.com
docker compose up -d

The image is ghcr.io/d4enst/tolktak-server, tagged per release and latest.

From source

cd tolktak/server
uv sync --no-dev
uv run tolktak-server

A Python 3.14 app managed with uv, plus the LiveKit server, run with systemd.

Installation guide

The server's own website with registration

Every server has a small website for registration, invites and help for its users.
